Xonca Categories

Categories — What are they? Categories are used to organize your products, i.e., Apparel, Ice Cream, etc.

ADDING CATEGORIES

Log-in to the administration area of your store. NOTE: Fields with an orange bar at the end are REQUIRED fields — you must enter something.

Click CATEGORY (You will notice that the folder “Root” displays. DO NOT delete Root, EVER.)
Click ADD CATEGORY. Click or tab from field to field and enter the following information:

  • NAME — Examples — Women’s Apparel, Desserts, Electronics, Etc.  NOTE: You might notice that whatever you enter in the NAME field automatically filters into the BROWSER TITLE and the URL KEYWORD. This is for search engine optimization.
  • DESCRIPTION — Specific details about category — use this area to advertise your product and/or company.*
  • BROWSER TITLE — You will notice that the Xonca system automatically enters a browser title, the same as the NAME field that you have entered. You may change these or leave them as they are; however, each browser title must be unique.
  • URL KEYWORD — Also auto-generated from the NAME field. You may change these or leave them as they are.
  • SORT ORDER — (Defaults to 99).  Sort order is the order that the category appears in the listing in your e-commerce storefront. Leaving it as is will automatically default to alphabetizing the category with other listings that do not have a SORT ORDER assigned. Changing the sort order from 1-98 will cause the categories to appear in that order regardless of alphabet.
  • PARENT — What category does your new category belong to? Is it a top-level category such as Men’s Apparel? If so, choose NONE. If it is a sub-category (i.e., under Men’s Apparel) such as T-Shirts or Dress Slacks, select the PARENT associated.
  • STATUS — Choose active or inactive (drop-down box). If a category is inactive (such as temporary, seasonal, or out-of-stock), the category and any products under the category will not be displayed in the e-commerce storefront.
  • META TAGS — Add a meta tag (NAME) to assist search engines in finding your products/store.  Keywords (DESCRIPTION) is a meta tag  industry standard.  Enter key words about your product description.  Click SAVE META TAG.

*The DESCRIPTION field has many options available to help “dress up” the product information.  See the sample picture below of available options.
